Sterile
sodium nitroprusside for infusion
Composition:
Each vial contains: Sodium
Nitroprusside eq. to Sodium Nitroprusside Dihydrate... 50mg.
Presentation:
5ml
vial carton. Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light.
A
hypotensive agent, is available as a reddish-brown sterile powder
for reconstitution and dilution in sterile 5% dextrose in water
to be used only for intravenous infusion. Chemically, sodium nitroprusside
is disodium pentacyanonitrosylferrate (2-) dihydrate.
Indication:
1.
As a short-acting hypotensive agent in the treatment of hypertensive
crisis.
2. Can
also be used to produce controlled hypotension during general anaesthesia
in order to reduce bleeding in surgical procedures.
3. Has
also been used to reduce preload and afterload in severe congestive
heart failure.
Dosage
and Administration: The
content of a 50mg PRUSIDE vial should be dissolved in 2 to 3ml of
sterile 5% dextrose injection.
