The inhalation of cyanide causes the most harm. However, its ingestion is also known to be extremely dangerous.

Accidental Cyanide Poisoning

Accidental Cyanide Poisoning incident take place in industries dealing with poisonous chemicals. Thousands of people lose lives because of accidental exposure to Cyanide. While Cyanide poisoning is arguably unpredictable; all over the world, the industries dealing with poisonous gas are mandated to keep antidote kit as a precaution. The Cyanide poisoning is proved to be lethal, if the treatment is not offered on time. How to deal with Cyanide Poisoning?

Specific therapy usage

Take Precaution!

  • Excessive dosage of both sodium nitrate and amyl nitrate can induce dangerous methaemoglobinaemia and can cause death. The amounts found in a single Cyanide Antidote Kit are not excessive for an adult.
  • Doses for children should be calculated and adjusted.
  • If signs of excessive methemoglobinaemia develop (i.e., blue skin, mucous membrane, vomiting, shock and coma), 1% methylene blue solution should be given intravenously.
  • A total dose of 1 to 2 mg per kg of body weight should be administered over a period of 5 to 10 minutes and should be repeated in an hour if necessary.
  • Additionally, oxygen inhalation and transfusion of fresh blood should be considered.
